Disabled Writers is a resource to help editors connect with disabled writers and journalists, and journalists connect with disabled sources. Our goal is specifically to promote paid opportunities for multiply marginalized members of the disability community, and to encourage editors and journalists to think of disabled people for stories that stretch beyond disability issues.

Shira Stein is a senior at American University majoring in journalism and minoring in biology. She is spending her summer as an intern with the Corporate and Transactional news team at Bloomberg BNA. She spent her spring semester as the Washington correspondent for the Durango Herald, covering the Colorado congressional delegation on Capitol Hill. reviously, she has been Editor-in-Chief of the NSPA Pacemaker-winning website Scot Scoop, a staff writer for College Magazine and a freelance writer for Media File. At American University, she is the president of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars chapter and a member of SOC Ambassadors and ReJEWvenate. She has a passion for DNA and informing the public, and after graduation, she hopes to continue pursuing her love of journalism.
