Disabled Writers is a resource to help editors connect with disabled writers and journalists, and journalists connect with disabled sources. Our goal is specifically to promote paid opportunities for multiply marginalized members of the disability community, and to encourage editors and journalists to think of disabled people for stories that stretch beyond disability issues.

Image: I have short brown hair with deep chocolate eyes. I am not skinny, but by no means do I consider myself fat (I am lovably chunky). I am in a wheelchair but that does not stop me! Lastly, I require a trach and ventilator at all times.

I am an 18-year-old undergraduate student. I was born with Ulrich Muscular Dystrophy, severe scoliosis, respiratory failure, and more diagnoses that would take a while to write. I have been in a wheelchair almost all of my life. I require a trach and ventilator to breathe, a g-tube for supplemental liquids, and a med-port for IV medications. Currently, I am studying at The University of Akron with a major in Communications: Media Studies and a minor in Spanish. I have written various journalistic style pieces for a few years, receiving my first experience in 2016 during a Post-Secondary course at Ashland University. I am a News Contributor for The Buchtelite, the student-run paper at The University of Akron. I am open to writing about almost any topic that an editor or other reporter assigns. However, my preferences are news stories about local events (I grew up in a small town).
