Born in Chicago, Illinois, Larry Johnson graduated from Northwestern University’s School of Speech and earned his Master’s Degree in Economics and Latin American Studies from La Universidad de las Americas in Mexico City. He is fully fluent in Spanish, having lived in Mexico City for 17 years. His professional background includes 21 years as Human Resources manager with AT&T/Southwestern Bell, 23 years as a radio and television broadcaster in the U.S. and Mexico City, and 37 years as a motivational/inspirational speaker and workshop presenter in Japan, Mexico, and the U.S. An advocate and champion for persons with disabilities all his life, Larry has served in leadership roles with countless organizations and committees at the local, state and national levels. Committed to spreading awareness, he co-founded and served as Chairman and President of two local and one statewide nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the lives of persons with disabilities. He’s the author of six books, including his most recent, Vol. 3 of And That’s How I See It, a collection of his popular commentaries published in the San Antonio Express-News. Larry was awarded The 2017 Texas Governor’s Trophy for outstanding service by the Governor’s Committee for People with Disabilities, received the 2016 American Council of the Blind’s national Vernon M. Henley Media Award, and was the San Antonio Writers Guild’s 2004 First Place winner in the Adult Nonfiction category. He’s the father of six and grandfather of 21, and currently resides in San Antonio, Texas.
